PRINCETON, N.J. — This Saturday, multiple members of the Yale women's track and field team went in to competition looking to secure marks that would qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Meet. A series of impressive performances, including a school record, now have the Bulldogs in position for some more postseason competition.
Starting off for the women at the Princeton Elite Invitational was junior
Samantha Friborg in the 800m. Friborg showed her true talent, running a blistering 2:04.64. This is her fastest 800m ever and is good for No. 2 all-time at Yale, just behind
Kate Grace '11.
Shortly afterwards, senior
Kayley DeLay broke yet another school record, this time in the 1500m, running 4:12.12. This mark is also No. 2 in the East Region. Considering DeLay's specialty is the 3000m steeplechase, this mark speaks highly for her pure speed in a more technical event. Junior
Kosana Weir ran a very courageous effort as well, running a respectable 4:23.24. This mark is good for No. 6 all-time at Yale.
In addition to the competitors at Princeton, captain and senior
Emma Vasen competed at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Bryant. There, she earned a personal best in the discus throw, breaking the meet record and finishing first with a very impressive mark of 169'03". This mark is good for No. 2 all-time at Yale. Vasen's first-place finish also earns her All-NEICAAA.
Next week the final list of athletes will be announced by the NCAA for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Meet, but many Bulldogs have unofficially secured their spots by ranking among the top 48 in the region -- including DeLay, Friborg and Vasen.
