NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
For the sixth time in program history and third-straight athletic season, the Yale University men's lacrosse team is headed to the NCAA Quarterfinal Round. The No. 4-seeded Bulldogs take on No. 5 Princeton, in Hempstead, N.Y., at James Shuart Stadium, this Saturday, May 21, at 2:30 p.m., on ESPNU.

The Elis got past St. Joe's in a thriller, 18-16, in the NCAA First Round as Yale completed a perfect 8-0 record at Reese Stadium this season. The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers in their matchup earlier this season (3/26) in New Haven, 14-12, and now face Princeton for the second time ever in the NCAA Tournament. The Elis won the previous meeting which also came in the quarterfinal round, 17-8, in 1990.

Princeton will be the fifth-straight nationally-ranked opponent for the Bulldogs. Yale has played 10 ranked foes in its 16 games with two more coming against teams receiving votes. The Elis have seven nationally-ranked wins.

The Bulldogs are led by a trio of All-Americans including two-time First Teamer (Inside Lacrosse, USA Lacrosse Magazine) Matt Brandau. Brandau, who is second in the nation in points (6.06) and goals (3.5) per game, is joined by seniors Chris Fake (Inside Lacrosse & USA Lacrosse Magazine Honorable Mention) and captain Brian Tevlin (Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention).

While Yale's upperclassmen have led the Bulldogs back to the NCAA Quarterfinals, the Elis are actually the nation's youngest team with 14 underclassmen in the rotation and 101 goals scored by first-year players, the most in the country.

Forst Family Head Coach of Men's Lacrosse, Andy Shay, has succeeded in meshing his experience and youth this season. Shay became the program's winningest coach with the Ivy Semifinal victory over Cornell to reach 167 career victories for the Bulldogs, passing longtime coach Mike Waldvogel (1981-2002).

As a team, the Bulldogs lead the nation in opponent clear percentage (.763) and also boast top-10 national rankings in assists (2nd – 9.50), points (4th – 24.69), scoring offense (6th – 15.19), man-up offense (6th - .500), winning percentage (7th - .750) and groundballs (8th – 35.4).

About Princeton
The Tigers, who missed out on the Ivy League Tournament, made up for it quickly with an impressive 12-5 victory over BU in last Saturday's NCAA First Round. Princeton stands at 10-4 overall and was ranked ninth in the last USILA poll.

It will be the 107th meeting for Yale and Princeton with the first meeting coming back in 1882. While the Tigers own the series advantage at 74-30-2, the Bulldogs have won the last six meetings.

The Tigers lead the country in groundballs per game (38.93) and are second in caused turnovers (10.71). Their strong defense is aided by Alex Slusher who is 12th nationally in goals (3.14) and Chris Brown who is sixth in assists (2.79).
