BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Two members of the Yale women's track and field team competed Thursday at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Bloomington, Ind.
First, junior Samantha Friborg took to the track in the second heat of the 800m. The top three in each heat and the next six best times advance to Saturday's quarterfinal. She started off strong and made big pushes at one lap to go to finish in 2:05.10. She finished fourth in her heat and 12th overall in the competition, earning a spot to the next round. She will race on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. looking to earn one of 12 spots from the region at the NCAA Championships.
Following Friborg's race, senior Addison Coy competed in the 400m hurdles. Her time of 1:00.10 placed 33rd overall. She was less than a second away from the 24th and final qualifying time (59.25).
In addition to Friborg, Saturday will also feature seniors Kayley DeLay (3000m steeplechase) and Emma Vasen (discus) competing for Yale. Vasen is in the first flight, with competition starting at 1:00 p.m. DeLay is in the third and final heat, with competition starting at 5:40 p.m.
