Coed Sailing Races At Three Regattas

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- It was a tricky weekend for the Yale coed sailing team. The team sailed three events this weekend; the Danmark Trophy at Coast Guard, the Moody at University of Rhode Island, and the Yale Fall Invite at home. The teams came in 11th, third and fourth, and 12th respectively at each event.

Two Yale teams competed at the Moody; Teddy Nicolosi, Ashley Highland, Mathias Reimer, and Ariana Borut on Yale "1" and Stephan Baker, Elle Sykes, Alex Adams, and Julia Miller on Yale "2". Despite rainy, puffy, and shifty conditions on the Salt Pond, both teams had a fairly successful weekend, especially in the A Division. Baker and Sykes narrowly edged out Nicolosi and Highland to win the division, 47 points to 49 points.

Yale had a tougher time at the Danmark, hosted on the Thames River. Saturday was very windy; 8-15 knots out of the North. On Sunday it lightened up a bit — 6-12 knots — but sailors still had to contend with strong current and unpredictable shifts.

The coed team will look to work on starting cleanly and sailing in breeze at practice this week in order to prepare for the events next weekend, the coed ACC Qualifier at Harvard and MIT and the Sister Esther at Salve Regina.
