NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale coed and women's sailing teams had busy weekends on the water. Three sailors competed in the NEISA Singlehanded Championships over the weekend, and two squads headed to double-handed regattas.
At Brown, Mathias Reimer and Alex Adams sailed in the NEISA Open Singlehanded Champs, and Audrey Foley competed in the NEISA Women's Singlehanded Championship. The breeze was light on Friday, so the race committee was only able to get in three races for the open fleet, and four for the women's fleet. The wind picked up on Saturday, when the majority of the races took place. Foley stayed consistent with all single-digit finishes on Saturday, placing her sixth out of 15 sailors overall. In the open fleet, Reimer placed in fifth, and Adams in 17th out of 31 sailors.
The coed team placed third at the Hatch Brown Trophy hosted by MIT. The breeze was light on Saturday, so each division only sailed three races. Skipper Morgan Pinckney and Annabel Woodworth sailed in A division, skipper Dorothy Mendelblatt and crew Sarah Moeder sailed in B division, and first-year skipper Carly Kieding sailed with crew Carmen Berg in C division.
The women's team was also on the Charles river on Saturday, competing in the Regis Trophy hosted by Boston University. The conditions were also light and shifty on this part of the river, so each division only sailed five races. Skipper Elle Sykes and first-year crew Ella Benedetto sailed in A division, and skipper Clara Díaz Suárez sailed with first-year Margaret Ratzan in B division. The team placed in 10th overall.
Next week, the team will race in the Hoyt Trophy, Hood Trophy, Mrs. Hurst Bowl, and Match Race NEISA Championship.
