ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- The Yale coed sailing team placed fourth at the ICSA Open Fleet Race National Championships hosted by St. Mary's College of Maryland.
The four-day event included 36 of the top teams in the country. The first two days featured two semifinal regattas with the top-nine teams in each pool advancing to the finals. Yale placed second behind Stanford in the West Semifinal to advance to the two-day final regatta.
Light winds canceled all sailing on the opening day of the finals. After several delays on day two, seven sets of races were held. Stanford claimed the national championship title with 59 points overall. Navy placed second (75), followed by Dartmouth (92), Yale (99), and Harvard (107).
In the 'A' division,
Jack Egan and
Elle Sykes sailed to an eighth place finish, recording two top-five results.
Stephan Baker and
Ashley Highland represented the Bulldogs in the 'B' division. The pair placed fourth with four top-five finishes.
Yale will graduate 11 seniors, but will return more than a dozen sailors with collegiate experience.
