Annapolis, Md. -- It was another dominant weekend for the Yale women's sailing team. The Bulldogs walked away with first place at the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship (ACC) 1A Qualifiers, securing their position in the ACC Finals two weeks from now, and winning their second regatta in a row.
Conditions were tricky on the Chesapeake Bay. On Saturday, the wind held strong and steady at around 8-12 knots, but the Elis had to navigate choppy waves and strong current. After 10 races on Saturday, Yale sat at 4th place overall.
On Sunday, the wind lessened substantially, making the current and the waves even more difficult to navigate through. The Bulldogs, however, rose to the occasion and clinched the win, getting three first-place finishes out of the 12 races sailed between the two divisions and finishing the day with a respectable 13 point gap between first and second place. Both Yale boats placed third in their divisions; skipper
Mia Nicolosi and crew
Sarah Moeder in A division and skipper
Emma Cowles and crew
Catherine Cheung in B division.
In two weeks, Yale will face the other eight qualifiers from this event and the top-nine qualifiers from its sister event, the Women's ACC 1B Qualifiers hosted by St. Mary's College. Before that, Yale women's sailing will attend the Stu Nelson Regatta at Connecticut College next weekend.
