NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale women's sailing team placed fourth at the Atlantic Coast Championship hosted at the Yale Corinthian Yacht Club this weekend.
Conditions were incredibly tricky in Branford, Connecticut. On Saturday, sailors were met with pouring rain, frigid temperatures, and almost no wind: 5-8 knots out of the west that died in the morning and also late afternoon. Only four races were completed on Saturday. On Sunday, the wind picked up dramatically — reaching 18 knots at times in the afternoon — but was quite shifty and puffy.
The Bulldogs had some up-and-down results. In A Division, skipper
Mia Nicolosi and crews
Ximena Escobar and
Sarah Moeder took sixth place. In B Division, skipper
Emma Cowles and crew
Catherine Cheung finished in third place, behind the Stanford and the Boston College teams. Ultimately, Yale missed out on a podium finish, ending the weekend just 12 points behind the third place Cornell team.
Next weekend, the Yale women's sailing team will be at home again, sailing the Yale Women's regatta at YCYC.
