NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The accolades continue to come in for quarterback
Nolan Grooms after his outstanding performance in Yale's 45-3 victory over Morgan State in the NAACP Harmony Classic. After earning the weekly Gold Helmet Award from the New England Football Writers Association on Sunday, Grooms has been selected as the Ivy League's Offensive Player of the Week.
Grooms threw for a career-high 363 yards and rushed for 87 yards in Saturday's win at Yale Bowl, Class of 1954 Field. His 450 yards of total offense tied for the fifth most in a single game in school history. He also matched his career high with four touchdown passes.
In addition, Yale had three selections to the league's Honor Roll – linebacker
Joseph Vaughn, who returned an interception 36 yards for a touchdown, wide receiver
Mason Tipton, who had nine receptions for 136 yards and two touchdowns, and first year
Osize Daniyan, who started at safety and made three unassisted tackles as the Bulldogs yielded just 204 yards of total offense and limited Morgan State to 12 first downs.
The Bulldogs (1-2, 0-1 Ivy) play their first road game of the season on Saturday at Dartmouth. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
