CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Yale coed sailing team finished the season strong with a second place finish at the Schell Trophy at MIT and a fourth place finish at the Dave Perry Team Race at Yale.
At the Schell Trophy, the Yale sailors put up a good fight against the first place Harvard Team, their historic rivals who were sailing on their home river. Facing beautiful strong winds on Saturday and cold weak winds on Sunday, the Bulldogs put on an impressive showing. In A division, skipper
Teddy Nicolosi and crews
Carmen Berg and Ashley Highland finished in third place. And in B division, skipper
Carmen Cowles and crews
Nathan Sih and Elle Sykes won the whole thing, beating the Harvard skipper in the final race of the regatta to knock him out of first place. The Bulldogs came in second place overall, losing only to Harvard by 11 points.
At the Dave Perry Team Race Regatta, skippers
Megan Grimes,
Nicholas Davies, and Alex Adams and crews
Julia Miller,
Jessi Avila-Shah, and
Mary Madaus began the team racing season early; team racing typically is concentrated in the fall. Facing opponents from Brown, Roger Williams, and the University of Rhode Island, the Bulldogs went 3-5 overall to place fourth at the regatta.
This weekend was Bulldogs's last weekend of competition in the fall season. They will train through Thanksgiving before taking a break before the spring competition season begins again in February.
