NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale coed sailing team won the Danmark Trophy this weekend, hosted by the Coast Guard Academy. Skipper Morgan Pinckney and crew Annabel Woodworth won A division by 19 points, and skipper Audrey Foley with crew Ashley Highland placed third in B division. Despite the light breeze on Saturday and Sunday, the Race Committee managed to get 11 races off for both divisions.
The women's team made the trip to St. Mary's College for the Women's Atlantic Coast Championships Round 1A. On Saturday, the wind was very light, but Sunday brought shifty, breezy conditions from the North. Skipper Dorothy Mendelblatt and crew Julia Miller placed sixth in A division, and skipper Carly Kieding with crew Sarah Moeder placed fourth in B division. The Bulldogs finished in fourth overall, qualifying the team for the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship Finals, which will take place at MIT from October 11-12.
Another coed squad competed in the Moody Trophy hosted at URI. On Saturday, the conditions were tough on the Salt Pond, starting light out of the Northeast before shifting to the Southeast later in the day. On Sunday, the breeze was a consistent 8 knots out of the South and built up to 12 knots by the end of the day. Skipper Mathias Reimer sailed with crew Margaret Ratzan in A division, and skipper Alex Adams sailed with crew Puiyee Kong in B division. The team placed eighth overall.
Next weekend, the Bulldogs will compete in the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Round 1A hosted at Yale, and the Stu Nelson held at Connecticut College.
