CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Yale Women's sailing team won the Victorian Urn Trophy at Harvard this weekend, thus cinching the fall New England Championships. The Bulldogs were dominant in their last competition of the fall season, not only winning the regatta but also both divisions.
The Charles was unexpectedly glorious on Saturday. Sailors contended with 5-13 knots out of the west, with temperatures in the high 70s. 10 races were completed. Sunday, however, was a return to form for the River. Freezing cold, rainy, with only 3-5 knots of wind, it was a struggle to complete the final four races of the regatta.
Despite this, the Elis put on a masterclass. In A division, skipper
Mia Nicolosi and crew
Sarah Moeder beat second place Harvard by seven points, finishing in first place four times and in the top-five in all but 3 races. Skipper
Emma Cowles and crew
Catherine Cheung also won in a tightly contested B division, finishing the weekend two points above the second place MIT team. Overall, the Bulldogs won the regatta by over 30 points.
This was the Bulldogs' final event of the season. They will return to competition in the spring when the team racing season begins.
