Intrastate Rivals Set to Clash Saturday at Noon in Storrs

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 15 Yale women's lacrosse team takes on another intrastate rival Saturday, traveling to UConn (12:00 p.m., FloSports, Live Stats, Tickets). The Huskies, who were one of only five teams that beat Yale last season, are among the teams receiving votes in the national poll.

Last Game
Yale (4-1, 1-0 Ivy League) got goals from nine different players in a 16-6 win vs. Central Connecticut State Monday night at Reese Stadium. The balanced scoring effort included hat tricks from three players – and for each of them, these were the first three goals of their Yale careers: junior attacker Chloe Conaghan (Chevy Chase, Md.), sophomore midfielder Alex Hopkins (Garden City, N.Y.), and first-year attacker Megan Kitagawa (Syosset, N.Y.).

Collignon Named to Tewaaraton Award Watch List
Sophomore attacker Jenna Collignon (Hinsdale, Ill.) has been named to the Tewaaraton Award Women's Watch List. The Tewaaraton Foundation announced the additions Thursday. Collignon leads the Ivy League in goals (16) and points (20). She has a 12 game point-scoring streak dating back to last season, and has at least three goals in nine of those 12 games. She is shooting .500 (16 for 32) this year and has a pair of game-winning goals. The addition to the Watch List adds to a growing list of accolades just this week for Collignon, who was named Ivy League Player of the Week on Monday and national IWLCA Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Those honors came after she led Yale with six goals and seven points in last Saturday's 15-10 win vs. No. 16 Princeton.

Bulldogs Among the Best in the Nation
As of Mar. 9 Yale ranked second in the nation in caused turnovers per game (12.40), third in draw control percentage (.656), ninth in draw controls per game (16.80) and 10th in scoring defense (8.00 goals per game).

Penoyer Tops Ivy League in Assists
Senior attacker Olivia Penoyer (Manlius, N.Y.) leads the Ivy League in assists with 12. Penoyer's six assists in the win at Quinnipiac Feb. 22 are the most by any Ivy Leaguer this season. Her league-leading 37 assists last season ranked her eighth on the league's single-season assists record list.

Sky's The Limit
Sophomore midfielder Sky Carrasquillo (Alpharetta, Ga.) leads the Ivy League in draw controls with 26. Her 94 draw controls last season ranked her seventh on the league's single-season draw controls record list.

State of Lacrosse
Saturday marks Yale's third game against a Connecticut rival in a span of five games. The Bulldogs won at Quinnipiac 14-5 on Feb. 22 and beat Central Connecticut State 16-6 on Mar. 6.

Road Warriors
Six of Yale's next eight games are on the road, and four are against teams that are ranked or receiving votes in the national poll (at RV UConn Mar. 11, at No. 13 Duke Mar. 14, at No. 14 Army Apr. 4, at No. 21 Penn Apr. 8).

Scouting UConn
UConn (3-2, 0-0 Big East) is 0-2 against ranked teams this season, falling to then-No. 12 James Madison 11-7 Feb. 18 and to then-No. 25 UMass 16-12 last Saturday in Storrs. The Huskies are coming off a 2022 season in which they went 13-5 and earned an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament, falling to JMU 14-7 in the first round.
