CRANSTON, R.I. - The Bulldogs came away just shy of first place in their first regatta of the season.
The Yale sailing team hit the ground running at their first weekend of competition this season. The Bulldogs sailed the Sharpe Team Race hosted by Brown at Edgewood Yacht Club and the Thames River Team Race at Connecticut College. Despite being an early season regatta, the Sharpe Team Race brought good competition and an excellent opportunity to put skills to practice. The one day event started off with moderate wind from the Northwest direction, building slowly throughout the day.
The team won six races in a row in the first round robin but fell to the Harvard Crimson in the last race of the round robin. A protest was filed but disallowed. The first seven races were sailed by Carmen Cowles '25 with Ben Markert '23, Jack Egan '25 with Catherine Webb '23, and Teddy Nicolosi '24 with Anisha Arcot '23. The breeze picked up significantly towards the end of the day and Nathan Sih '25 joined Egan, but the race sailed by Sih was not counted due to a lack of time to finish a final four round.
The group sailing the Thames River Team Race earned fifth out of eight, with wins against Tufts and University of Vermont.
The coed team will head to St. Petersburg, Florida on Friday for spring break training.
