NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale sailing teams competed at three regattas this weekend, registering strong results at each race.
The Bulldogs sent two teams of three boats to the Hatch Brown Trophy at MIT on Sunday. There, the teams faced a shifty westerly breeze of 6-14 knots on the notoriously squirrely Charles River. One Yale team, consisting of skippers
Teddy Nicolosi,
Stephan Baker, and
Emma Cowles, and crews Elle Sykes, Ashley Highland, and
Catherine Cheung, clinched victory at the event, defeating the rival Harvard team by a hard-earned five points. The second Yale team also had a successful weekend, finishing fifth overall.
Three Yale sailors participated in the Monotype Trophy at Brown this weekend, NEISA's single-handed nationals qualifier event. Freshman Matthias Reimer had an outstanding debut on the single-handed scene, finishing fourth overall out of 35 participants. He had a particularly outstanding day on Saturday — the windier day — which he finished with three first-place finishes and a scoreline in the single digits. Senior
Nicholas Davies also had an impressive weekend, finishing 12th, and sophomore Alex Adams finished in 26th place. A national selection committee will decide later this fall who will be chosen to participate in the single-handed national championship in November.
Four Yale boats sailed at the Yale Invite, hosted at the Bulldog's home venue of Yale Corinthian Yacht Club. Junior
Nathan Sih and freshman Ariana Borut absolutely dominated, winning the regatta by 13 points and finishing with five first-place finishes out of 10 races.
The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend, sailing at four regattas.
