The Yale coed sailing team had a mixed but overall successful regatta weekend, their third of the season. The team entered two events: the Sherman Hoyt Trophy at Brown and the Hood Trophy at Tufts.
Conditions were fairly consistent for the Hoyt Trophy. Edgewood Yacht Club experienced winds from the East/Northeast ranging from 6-15 knots, cold temperatures, and rain. Despite dreary conditions, quite a bit of sailing was completed — 14 races were finished, the maximum allowed for in-conference regattas. Yale finished in fourth place overall, with skipper
Teddy Nicolosi and crew Elle Sykes finishing fifth in A division and skipper Morgan Pickney and crews
Jessi Avila-Shah and
Ximena Escobar finishing third in B division. The Bulldogs finished within inches of third place, ending the regatta only six points behind Boston College.
At the Hood, Yale sailors faced the notoriously difficult wind conditions of Mystic Lake, Massachusetts. Shifty, but steady breezes of 5-9 knots came from the North/Northeast, with gusts reaching up to 18 knots on Saturday. Skipper
Nathan Sih and crew Ariana Borut finished in fourth place in A Division and skipper Alex Adam and crew
Julia Miller ended up 14th in B Division, for an overall finish of ninth place.
Next weekend, the Yale Coed team will take on the Moody Trophy at URI, the Danmark Trophy at Coast Guard Academy, and an invite at Connecticut College.
