BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Yale women's sailing team had a dominant start to their season at the Mrs. Hurst Trophy at Bowdoin this weekend, winning their very first regatta of the season.
The conditions on Harpswell Sound were undeniably tricky. On Saturday, weak and shifty winds of around 4-6 knots came out of the North and South East and temperatures were unseasonably low. Only four races were completed in 5 hours of racing. On Sunday, conditions worsened; winds of 2-4 knots shifted continuously throughout the day, only allowing one race to be successfully completed.
Despite these difficult circumstances, the Bulldogs trimphed in emphatic fashion. They not only won the regatta by over 20 points, but teams won in both divisions. Skipper
Mia Nicolosi and crew
Sarah Moeder ran away with the A division, winning four out of five total race and ending the weekend with only seven total points. In B Division, skipper
Emma Cowles and crew
Catherine Cheung also won their division handily. Yale ended all 10 races it sailed with a top-three finish.
Next weekend, the Yale Women's Sailing team will look to continue their success at Women's Atlantic Coast Championship qualifiers at the Naval Academy in Annapolis.
