LAST WEEKEND
Yale swept Penn and Quinnipiac last weekend at Johnson Field. The Bulldogs
beat Penn 2-1 in overtime on a goal by junior forward
Poppy Beales (King's Lynn, Norfolk, England). They followed that up with a
4-2 win vs. Quinnipiac Sunday.
A HISTORICALLY GOOD START
Yale is 6-2 for the first time since 1998. The Bulldogs started that season 6-1 and, after dropping to 6-2, won three straight to get to 9-2. Yale eventually finished 15-4 that season, setting the school record for wins in a season.
OFFENSE TRENDING UP
Yale is averaging 2.88 goals per game this season, doubling last season's average (1.44). That places the Bulldogs 14th in the national goals per game rankings (and second in the Ivy League). The last time Yale averaged that many or more goals per game was the 2011 Ivy League championship season, when the Bulldogs averaged 4.06 goals per game.
BEALES HONORED BY IVY LEAGUE
Junior forward
Poppy Beales (King's Lynn, Norfolk, England), who totaled five points in helping the Yale field hockey team go 2-0 this past weekend, was
named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Beales scored both Yale goals in Friday's 2-1 overtime win vs. Penn, including the game-winner. That gives her five goals for the season, tied for first in the Ivy League. Beales had an assist in Sunday's 4-2 win vs. Quinnipiac. With 12 points on the season (5-2-12), she now ranks second in the Ivy League.
BEALES FTW
Junior forward
Poppy Beales (King's Lynn, Norfolk, England) now has five career game-winning goals, all in the last 14 games. Last season she had four game-winning goals in a span of five games, including three in overtime.
SCOUTING HARVARD
Harvard (7-1, 2-0 Ivy League) has won five in a row since a 3-2 overtime loss to then-No. 19 Albany on Sept. 13. The Crimson has won 11 straight Ivy League games, dating back to a 4-2 loss at then-No. 10 Princeton Oct. 23, 2022. Goalkeeper Tessa Shahbo is seventh nationally in save percentage (.800) and Harvard's offense ranks 10th nationally in goals per game (3.00).
SCOUTING MONMOUTH
Monmouth (6-3, 1-1 CAA), which hosts Delaware Friday afternoon, dropped out of the top 20 in the national rankings this week after one-goal losses to Drexel and Temple last weekend. The Hawks had a streak of three straight shutouts prior to that, including a 1-0 win vs. Yale's Ivy League rival Columbia Sept. 22. Goalkeeper Jessie Eiselen ranks fourth nationally in save percentage (.821) and Monmouth's offense ranks fifth nationally in goals per game (3.33).
