Yale Draws North Carolina In Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

NEW HAVEN, Conn.
-- The Yale volleyball team will kick off the NCAA Tournament in Pennsylvania where the Bulldogs will face North Carolina in the first round on Friday, Dec. 6 at 5 p.m. in State College, Pennsylvania.
 
No. 1-seeded Penn State, the host of the first and second rounds, meets Delaware State in the second match of the day. The two winners play on Saturday evening.

Yale (19-5 overall, 12-2 Ivy League) earned its spot in the NCAA Tournament by winning the Ivy League Tournament for the third consecutive season, downing Cornell and Princeton en route to an automatic postseason berth. Sophomore Betsy Goodenow was a First Team All-Ivy selection and the conference tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Teammate Carly Diehl was also a first team all-conference pick and was the league's Player of the Year in 2023.

Yale head coach, Erin Appleman, the winningest coach in school history and a three-time Ivy League Coach of the Year, has guided the Bulldogs to an unprecedented 13 Ivy League regular season titles, 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, and six 20+ win seasons. She was also the first Ivy coach to lead a team to an NCAA Tournament victory. 

North Carolina finished the season with a 22-7 record including a 14-6 mark in the ACC.

Pittsburgh, Penn State, Nebraska and Louisville earned the top seeds in this year's tournament.
 
The full NCAA Tournament field consists of 31 automatic bids and 33 at-large selections.
