Busy Opening Weekend for Women's Track and Field

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's track and field team will split up for their first weekend of indoor season competition. Four Bulldogs are set to head to the UConn Husky Challenge, held in Storrs, Conn. at the Hugh S. Greer Field House from Dec. 5-6. The rest of the team will begin their winter in Coxe Cage at the Yale Season Opener at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The UConn Husky Challenge:
  • The Pentathlon, which will take place on Thursday, at 12:00 p.m., will feature junior Makayla White. In past seasons, White has represented Yale in the 60m, 100m, 200m and long jump.
  • Senior Makayla Harris and sophomore Emma Peretti will both kick off their seasons with the shot put and will be joined by junior Ivy Pete in the weight throw. All throwing events will take place on Friday, starting at 2:30 PM.
  • Live results can be found here.

The Yale Season Opener:
  • Sophomore Juliette Kosmont will be trying to break Yale's indoor 60m record, which she set last year. Captain Dominique Romain will compete in the long jump and join Kosmont in the 60m.
  • Another Yale record has the chance to be broken this weekend when sophomore Lucija Grd toes the line. Grd, who holds the current 60m hurdles record, will attempt to lower her own time.
  • Catch sophomore Victoria Guerrier in the 400m. With her time of 55.51, Guerrier has the fastest seed time from Yale in the event.
  • In the longer events, junior Carmel Fitzgibbon will open up her season with an impressive middle-distance double consisting of the 800m and the 1k. Also keep an eye out for junior Linde Fonville, who will race the 3k.
  • Overall, watch for all of Yale's distance runners, who will aim to utilize their cross country stamina for the 3k and mile. A few are also slated to run the 4x400, illustrating quite the impressive range.
  • Meet information can be found here.

Up next:
  • After this weekend, the Bulldogs have a break until the next competition. Yale will not race again until 2025, when the team heads up to Dartmouth for the Yale-Dartmouth-Columbia Tri-meet on Saturday, Jan. 18.
