LEXINGTON, Ky. – Three members of the Yale women's track and field team competed at the NCAA East First Round meet Thursday at Kentucky.
On Thursday afternoon, first-year
Constanza Acevedo placed 42nd in the javelin throw with a mark of 44.04m. Acevedo concludes her first year at Yale having already established the school record in that event with her mark of 48.47m at the Mark Young Invitational Apr. 18. She was one of just five Ivy Leaguers to compete in the javelin at the NCAA East First Round, and she was the only Ivy first-year.
The top 12 in the javelin at the NCAA East First Round earned spots in the NCAA Championships, set for June 10 and 12 at Oregon's Hayward Field.
Later on Thursday, junior
Juliette Kosmont placed 38th in the 100m with a time of 11.52. Kosmont concludes her season having set the school record in the 100m – and won the Ivy League Championship – with her time of 11.28 at the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 17. She was one of only two Ivy Leaguers to compete in the 100m at the NCAA East First Round.
The top three from each of the six 100m heats, plus those with the next six fastest times, advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals.
In Yale's final event of the night, junior
Gloria Guerrier placed 28th overall in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.36. That was a PR for her. She was fourth in her heat, just .38 away from the third and final automatic qualifying spot in that heat. She finished .31 away from the final at-large time.
Guerrier was one of five Ivy Leaguers in the event. She ranks second all-time at Yale in the 400m hurdles, trailing only
Patricia Melton '83 (57.86 in 1982).
The top three from each of the six 400m hurdles heats, plus those with the next six fastest times, advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals.
Two other Bulldogs, first-year
Phoebe Benun and sophomore
Zoe Martonfi, will compete Saturday in the 3K Steeplechase.
