NEW HAVEN, Conn. – An exhilarating win vs. Stanford in the season opener this past Saturday has propelled the Yale women's lacrosse team into the national rankings at No. 21. Now the Bulldogs look to continue their climb with two games in a four-day span: vs. local rival Quinnipiac Wednesday (3:00 p.m.,
ESPN+,
International Stream,
Live Stats) and at Temple Saturday (12:00 p.m.,
ESPN+,
Live Stats).
Last Game
Yale opened the season with a
13-12 comeback win vs. Stanford on a cold and snowy day at Reese Stadium last Saturday. The Bulldogs trailed 12-9 but outscored the Cardinal 4-0 in the final 11:27 for the victory.
Triple Hat Trick
Three Bulldogs had hat tricks in the season-opening win vs. Stanford:
Youth is Served
Yale's starting lineup in the season opener included three first years: midfielder
Katie Clare (Bayport, N.Y.), defender
Sydney Grogan (Bedford, N.H.) and goalkeeper
Laura O'Connor (Greenwich, Conn.). The first-year class had five players
named to ILWomen's Power 100 Rankings last fall, including Clare, Grogan, midfielder
Karina Herrera (Catonsville, Md.), midfielder
Ashley Kiernan (Chatham, N.J.) and attacker
Lily Spinner (Summit, N.J.).
Scouting Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac (0-0, 0-0 MAAC) is playing its season opener. The Bobcats are coming off a 2023 season in which they went 10-8, including a
14-5 loss to Yale. QU made its first appearance in the MAAC semifinals in program history and had its first 10-win season since 2011.
Scouting Temple
Temple (3-0, 0-0 AAC), which hosts Delaware Wednesday, has allowed only 17 goals in winning its first three games. The Owls, who
lost to the Bulldogs 16-5 last season, are coached by former Yale assistant coach Bonnie Rosen.
