Box Score 2 TAMPA, Fla. – The Yale softball team picked up its first win of the season at the South Florida Showdown on Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated Loyola Chicago 8-7 in their first game of the day before falling to No. 4 Washington 8-0 on Saturday night.
Game 1: Yale 8, Loyola Chicago 7
- Top 2nd | Loyola Chicago got on the board with a solo shot by Sydney Barnett
- Bottom 2nd | The Bulldogs answered right back with a solo shot from Willa Ferrer to tie the game at 1-1. Carolyn Skotz and Libby Peoples each added RBI singles to give Yale a 3-1 lead after two.
- Bottom 4th | Lauren Perren singled to right brining in Isabella Fortini to extend the Bulldogs' lead to 4-1.
- Bottom 5th | Mady Smith added an RBI single of her own.
- Bottom 6th | The Bulldogs extended their lead to 8-1 on a two-RBI double by Elena Ohe. Ferrer drove Ohe in with a single.
- Top 7th | Loyola Chicago rallied for six runs in the final frame, but the Bulldogs were able to hold them 8-7 for their first win of the season.
Game Notes
- Emma Taylor picked up the victory on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings while allowing one earned run. She also struck out five.
- The top-six of the Bulldogs' lineup was incredibly productive going a combined 14-for-23 and recording seven RBIs.
- Yale and Loyola Chicago squared off for the first time since 2011, a 3-2 win for the Bulldogs.
Game 2: No. 4 Washington 8, Yale 0
- Bottom 2nd | The Huskies scored two runs to get on the board.
- Bottom 4th | Washington added three more on an RBI double and a homer.
- Bottom 6th | Washington earned three additional insurance runs to seal the 8-0 victory.
Game Notes
- Peoples recorded the lone hit for the Bulldogs.
- Maddie Latta earned the loss, tossing 3.2 innings.
