Bulldogs Finish Fifth at UConn Dog Fight

STORRS, Conn. – The Yale men's track and field team made the short trip to UConn for the Dog Fight Invite Saturday.

Yale (79 points) finished fifth of 10 teams. UConn won with 170 points.

For the Bulldogs the day kicked off with two teams in the 4x100 meter relay. The team consisting of Cristian Pereira, Jacob Kao, Isiah Udofia and James Grindle secured second place in a time of 42.99.
Andrew Farr broke 50 seconds in the 400m, running 49.90.
The 100 was contested by many Bulldogs. Grindle led them home in a time of 10.84, just outside his PR. Mason Evans chased him home, running a time of 10.87 -- a significant PR for him.
In the 200 meters it was the trio of Udofia, Aaron Miller and Pereira who led the Bulldogs home. All broke the 22-second barrier, with Udofia running 21.63 for a large new PR.
Yale's throwers contributed greatly to the team's point total. Captain Matt Appel won the discus (52.49m), with Chris Ward taking fourth (48.74m). Jake Sun (57.03m, a PR, third) and Nolan Recker (55.09m, fifth) gave the Bulldogs two top-five finishes in the hammer throw. Ward won the shot put (17.53m, a PR).
Brian Di Bassinga took third in the triple jump (14.52m).
The 4x400 meters rounded out the day with Kao, Miller, Simon Jupp, and Farr racing. They fought hard to just miss out on the win, running a time of 3:16.

Up next: The Bulldogs will compete at home on Apr. 6 in the annual Harvard-Yale meet.
