ITHACA, N.Y. – The Yale heavyweight crew team competed in the Carnegie Cup on the Cayuga Inlet in Ithaca.
Â
Tailwinds built from eight to 14 miles per hour over the course of the morning with temperatures in the mid to high 40s. Princeton's first varsity boat took the victory in the cup race, while their 2V captured a win. Yale's 3V, 4V, and 5V shells took first place with commanding victories.

"We have a group of eager and competitive athletes on this year's squad," said
Mike Gennaro, Craig W. Johnson '68 Head Coach. "Whenever we line up to race, everyone's goal is to win. When that is not the outcome, it stings. When it is the outcome, the oarsmen are elated. We had both of those scenarios play out today with three boats winning and two second place finishes. Both the oarsmen and the coaches learned a lot in our races against Princeton and Cornell that we will use as lessons as we head into our championship leg of the season."
