NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's crew, ranked No. 5 in the nation, is back in action this weekend. The Bulldogs will be competing for the Cayuga Cup against No. 8 Syracuse and Cornell on Saturday. The first race is set for 1 p.m. on Fish Creek.
"The Cayuga Cup is a great race," said
Will Porter, the Friends of YWC Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "Syracuse is very good and they are well coached. They have been building up for the last few years and look really strong this year. It will take an extraordinary effort from us to win. We will give it our best shot."
Yale opened its season by defeating No. 12 Ohio State, No. 14 Rutgers and No. 16 Indiana two weeks ago on the Cooper River in New Jersey.
Syracuse joined the Bulldogs on the Cooper River that weekend, and its varsity eight defeated Ohio State, Indiana and Harvard but finished behind Penn. The second varsity eight won both of its races, and the varsity four finished behind only Ohio State.
Cornell opened its spring season last weekend and raced Boston University. The Big Red got victories from its third varsity eight and second varsity four.
