Bulldogs Take Victory Against Harvard

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale men's track and field team was out in full force Saturday for the home meet vs. Harvard at Cuyler Athletic Complex. The Bulldogs showed their tenacity by battling the adverse cold and windy conditions, with many coming away with PRs en route to beating Harvard 75 to 64.

  • The day kicked off on the field with the hammer throw. Nolan Recker took the win in a new PR of 58.24 meters. Jake Sun was right behind, just missing out on a PR. In the discus Chris Ward took the win with a distance of 51.18 meters on his last attempt to jump up the rankings. Ward returned later to win the shot put in a distance of 16.44 meters. Nathan Lebowitz made his college debut in the javelin throw, placing second with a distance of 48.89 meters.
  • In the long jump Andrew Fu placed second, jumping 6.31 meters. In the triple jump, Brian Di Bassinga took the win, jumping 14.66 meters.
  • On the track the 1500 meters was dominated by the Bulldogs. Tanish Chettiar, Calvin Katz and Ronan Luff swept the top three, all breaking 4 minutes in what was a great race.
  • The 400 meters was won by Aaron Miller in the blustery conditions. Antonio Bravo made his collegiate debut in this race and fought well for third place.
  • The 100 meters saw plenty of PRs. Kit Colson ran 10.62 seconds to set a new PR. James Grindle was chasing hard and ran a new PR of 10.79.
  • The 800 meters was a tactical affair. Thomas Cirrito closed quickly to secure second place. First year Brian Gamble was closely behind and is looking promising for a fast time soon.
  • Jacob Kao won the 200 meters with a time of 21.64. Grindle took the win in his heat in a time of 22.21 seconds.
  • The day closed out with the 4x400 meter relays. The team consisting of Simon Jupp, Andrew Farr, Cirrito and Chettiar placed second.
Up next:
  • The Bulldogs are headed for a dual-meet weekend, including a local meet -- the UConn Northeast Challenge, which starts on Apr. 12. A group will head down to Princeton for the Larry Ellis Invitational that starts on Apr. 12 as well.
