CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Yale women's sailing team placed fourth at the ICSA Fleet Race National Championships on Thursday. The Bulldogs totaled 244 points across two divisions while sailing in 17 races.
Stanford won the national championship with a total of 207 points. Boston College and Dartmouth rounded out the top three.
Yale qualified for the finals by finishing first in the western semifinals on Monday and Tuesday. On the first day of the championship finals, the teams sailed in a total of 12 races. The Bulldogs won two races and finished in the top-five in six others in the 'B' division. On day two, the teams were able to get in an additional five races and the regatta was delayed for several hours because of weather. Yale totaled another five top-five finishes between the two divisions to earn the fourth place finish.
Carmen Cowles and
Emma Cowles were the skippers in the 'A' division with
Carmen Berg and
Catherine Cheung as crew. In the 'B' division
Mia Nicolosi and
Sarah Moeder sailed for Yale. Nicolosi and
Emma Cowles were named at Quantum Sails Sailor of the Year finalists.
The Bulldogs graduate four seniors but will return several key members of the roster.
