Yale moves to 0-4-1, while Rutgers sits at 3-4-1.
"I am really happy with the overall effort and performance today," said
Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "The group responded well to my challenges to them, and we earned a quality result against a talented Big Ten team. We still have a lot of room to grow but we had a lot of positive moments tonight and this is a small victory overall to show the type of team we can become when everyone puts in the necessary work and competes for 90 minutes."
How it Happened
- 10' | Following a corner kick into the box, Rutgers defender Arnar Adalsteinsson put a header on net, but Yale keeper Chris Edwards knocked the shot over the crossbar for a clutch save.
- 24' | Aydin Jay was able to put a low shot on net, but his attempt was saved by Rutgers keeper Ciaran Dalton.
- HT | Edwards was outstanding throughout the first half, making five saves.
- 60' | GOAL! After Nick Miller crossed the ball into the box, Joseph Farouz fought the ball away from two Rutgers defenders and finished with a left-footed shot to break the scoreless tie. 1-0 Yale
- 72' | Rutgers forward Cole Cruthers took a shot just outside the box. His shot was partially deflected, but Edwards made an incredible diving save to keep the Scarlet Knights off the scoreboard.
- 81' | Rutgers tied the game on a goal by Ola Maeland. 1-1 tie
Game Notes
- Tuesday's matchup was the fourth ever meeting between Yale and Rutgers. The two teams now have a 1-1-2 record against each other. Yale's last win against the Scarlet Knights came in the 1999 NCAA Tournament.
- Chris Edwards set a new career-high with 10 saves.
- Farouz scored his second goal of the season.
- Miller recorded the first point of his collegiate career on an assist of the Farouz goal.
- Teague McCammon made his first collegiate start for the Bulldogs.
