Bulldogs Wrap Up Competition at Giegengack Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The 18th Giegengack Invitational Saturday gave many members of the Yale men's track and field team a chance to run in front of the home crowd for a final time this season. Multiple PRs and strong performances highlighted the Bulldogs' final competition prior to the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships.
 
The Meet:

  • The day kicked off with the weight throw. Junior Jake Sun placed third with his second-round throw of 18.03 meters. Sophomore Nathan Lebowitz had his best attempt in the final round, 17.09 meters, to place sixth.
  • In the long jump, Isiah Udofia placed third after his second-round jump of 7.13 meters. In the triple jump, first year Orion Browne jumped very well to place second with a mark of 14.68 meters. Narrowly behind was junior Brian Di Bassinga in third.
  • Junior Elliot Wessel jumped well in the pole vault, clearing 4.40 meters.
  • On the track, the Bulldogs raced well in the mile. Sophomore Caden Montini had an electric win, running a PR of 4:09. Senior Jack Sendek was just behind, also in 4:09. Sophomore Daegan Cutter ran a new PR of 4:14. Out of the second heat, junior Will Sheehy ran well to secure a new PR of 4:20.
  • The sprinters set the track alight in the 60 meters. Senior Cristian Pereira placed first in his heat, running 6.87 to qualify for the final. Senior Kit Colson ran a strong time of 7.02 to place second in his heat. Junior Mason Evans ran very well, achieving a time of 7.03.
  • In the 1,000 meters, first year Matthew Schutzbank closed hard to run a PR of 2:28 and place first.
  • Sophomore Finnegan Quinn tested himself in the 400 meters. His clocking of 49.45 was good enough for fourth.
  • The Bulldogs did very well in the 800 meters. First year Max Bishop ran a new PR of 1:51 to place second in an excellent race. Senior Calvin Katz showed his class, running 1:52, and sophomore Antonio Bravo ran a great race to take the win in 1:54 in his heat.
  • In the 200 meters, senior James Grindle raced well to take the heat win in 22.29 seconds.
  • First-year Lucas Cohen raced the 3,000 meters. Fighting hard in his second event of the day, he came home with a time of 8:23. In the second heat Sheehy, also in his second event of the day, had a fast finish to run 8:51.
Up Next: 
  • The Bulldogs get one week off to return to training in preparation for the Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Championships hosted by Cornell on Mar. 1-2. This represents the climax of the season and will be the first time the Bulldogs have gone head-to-head with all their Ivy League rivals.
