Final Day of Heps Highlighted by Distance Medley Relay Title, Facility Record

ITHACA, N.Y. — The final day of the Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track and Field Championships at Cornell's Barton Hall saw the Yale men's track and field team get a first-place finish from the distance medley relay team and a second-place finish in the triple jump. The Bulldogs finished sixth with 38 points.

  • The day began with junior Brian Di Bassinga earning second place in the triple jump. His final round mark of 15.25 meters was just outside a PR. First year Orion Browne had a great Heps debut, placing sixth to secure a point.
  • Senior Jack Sendek had a brave race in the mile against a highly competitive field. His solid indoor performances set him up well for the outdoor season ahead.
  • Two Bulldogs made the 60-meter final. It was senior Kit Colson who brought home points with his sixth-place finish in 6.85 seconds. Classmate Cristian Pereira was just behind, running 6.86 seconds.
  • Simon Jupp improved upon Saturday's performance in the 500 meters to run 1:04.49, placing sixth and securing a point for the Bulldogs.
  • In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Daegan Cutter and junior Kenan Pala tested themselves against a strong field, running 14:38 and 14:42 respectively.
  • The relays kicked off with the DMR. The team consisting of senior Leo Brewer, Jupp, first year Max Bishop and junior Owen Karas set a new facility record of 9:45.19 to place first. Bishop brought the Bulldogs back into contention over his 800 meter leg before Karas closed in a 4:02 1600 meters to secure the victory.
  • In the 4x800m relay the Bulldogs placed sixth, scoring a point for the team. Sophomore Caden Montini led Yale out well, with sophomore Brian Gamble, first year Matthew Schutzbank and senior Calvin Katz running the later legs.
  • The final event of the day was the 4x400 meter relay. Sophomore Antonio Bravo, junior Mason Evans, Bishop and Karas raced. This was the second event of the day for many athletes, and the Bulldogs finished with a time of 3:27.04.
  • Princeton (189.5 points) won the meet.
 
Up Next: 
  • With the culmination of the indoor season, attention now turns towards the outdoor season. The Bulldogs begin that season later this month.
