RALEIGH, N.C. — The busy schedule continued for the Yale men's track and field team on Thursday, with multiple runners competing at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State. The small squad of Bulldogs set the track alight with impressive times. The highlight was two school records. Senior
Leo Brewer moved up a distance to set the 5,000 meter record. Junior
Owen Karas set the 1,500 meter mark, adding to his growing tally of school records.
The Meet:
- Full results can be found here.
- Senior Leo Brewer moved up in distance to the 5,000 meters to test his fitness. Brewer spent much of the race near the front and closed quickly with a 2:09 last 800 to set a new school record of 13:50.23. This time takes down the mark of 13:52.43 set by Robert Miranda '22.
- Junior Owen Karas took to the track in the fastest 1,500 meter heat of the evening. Racing against some of the best in the NCAA, he fought near the front to run a new PR of 3:37.52. This mark eclipses the previous school record, set by James Randon '17, of 3:37.93. Karas will now turn his attention to honing his race craft prior to Heps and Regionals.
- It was sophomore Brian Gamble who began the evening for the Bulldogs in the 1500 meters. Gamble went out hard and was rewarded with a very solid time of 3:49.
- Senior Winslow Atkeson competed in his first 3000 meter steeplechase of the year. It was a successful opener, with Atkeson just missing out on a PR to run 8:51 -- a time that has the potential to qualify for NCAA Regionals.
- Sophomore Daegan Cutter braved the 10,000 meter distance. In his first time racing this event on the track he performed well, running a time of 29:38 to move to sixth of all time at Yale.
Up Next:
- The Bulldogs are back in action this weekend at the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by Bryant Friday and Saturday. This will be a chance for a larger squad of Bulldogs to continue to build momentum as the outdoor season continues.
