ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Yale coed and women's sailing teams competed at three events this weekend in the Mid-Atlantic, securing another win for the women's team.
The women's team won the Jen Harris Women's Team Race, only losing one of 19 races. The wind built throughout the day on Saturday, starting at 8-10 knots from the northwest and increasing to 18-25 knots by the end of the day. Sunday was a bit lighter and came out of the southwest. Skippers Mia Nicolosi, Carmen Cowles, Emma Cowles, and crews Sarah Moeder, Ximena Escobar, Carmen Berg, Clara Díaz Suárez, and Jessi Ávila-Shah represented the Bulldogs on the water.
The coed team raced at St. Mary's and placed second with a record of 13-6. The team finished behind Roger Williams, the defending Open Team Race National Champions. The breeze was shifty from the northwest on Saturday, and 5-10 knots on Sunday from the southwest. Skippers Jack Egan, Stephan Baker, and Morgan Pinckney sailed with crews Elle Sykes, Nathan Sih, Ashley Highland, and Annabel Woodworth.
At Georgetown, another coed group competed in the John Jackson Memorial Regatta. It was breezy racing on the Potomac, with gusts up to 30 knots on Saturday. The team put up a score of 6-8, putting them in sixth place. Skippers Dorothy Mendelblatt, Mathias Reimer, Alex Adams, and Audrey Foley raced with crews Julia Miller, Puiyee Kong Mary Madaus, and Ariana Borut.
This week, the team will practice at St. Mary's college over their spring break. Next week, the coed team will compete at the Naval Academy in a team race and the women's team will fleet race at St. Mary's.
