NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Yale women's sailing team continued its dominant multi-year run, winning the Ivy League title for the fifth consecutive season. The Bulldogs were crowned Ivy League champions after registering a runner-up finish at the ICSA Women's Team Race National Championships. The highest finisher in the event is crowned the conference champion.
The Bulldogs won their fifth consecutive Ivy championship and are the only title holders in conference history since the award was inaugurated in 2022. Yale finished with an 18-4 record behind champion Stanford, which posted a 21-1 record. Brown finished as the Ivy League runner-up with a 13-9 record.
The two-day event kicked off on Sunday on Lake Pontchartrain, hosted by Tulane University. The breeze was shifty on Sunday, initially coming from the northeast and shifting all the way to the south by the end of racing. In the morning, the wind ranged from 8-10 knots with puffs into the mid-teens, then died down as the day went on before picking back up at the very end. On Monday, the wind was more consistent from the southeast, ranging from 9 to 12 knots.
The Bulldogs came out of Round 1 with a strong performance, winning 12 races and losing only two, falling to Stanford and Roger Williams. In Round 2, where the top six teams advanced, Yale won all of its races except one, defeating Stanford but falling to Brown. In the final round of the top four teams, Yale lost to Stanford and defeated Harvard and Brown.
Representing the Bulldogs were skippers Carly Kieding, Dorothy Mendelblatt, and Audrey Foley, while Elle Sykes both skippered and crewed. Sarah Moeder, Julia Miller, Ella Benedetto, and Carmen Berg crewed.
The women's team will compete in the ICSA Women's Fleet Racing National Championship from May 15-18 at the University of South Florida.
