Bulldogs Compete at Wake Forest Invitational

Winslow Atkeson (shown here) now ranks No. 22 in the East in the steeplechase.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Multiple members of the Yale men's track and field team tested themselves against tough competition at the Wake Forest Invitational Friday. The Bulldogs came away with strong performances, putting them in good standing as the Ivy League Championships approach.
 
The Meet:

  • The throws group began the day in the hammer throw. Junior Nolan Recker had a consistent series and threw 57.19 meters in his last attempt. Junior Jake Sun was closely behind at 56.57 meters. They placed sixth and seventh respectively.
  • Recker doubled back in the discus throw with a strong opening mark of 47.19 meters. Sophomore Nathan Lebowitz threw well to record a mark of 45.55 meters.
  • On the track in the 800m, first year Max Bishop placed first in his heat with his excellent last 150 meters. His time of 1:50 was just outside a PR. Sophomore Amaré Fields fought well in his heat coming home with a time of 1:52.
  • Senior Kit Colson set a new PR in the 100 meters. His time of 10.57 was good enough for fourth in his heat. Classmate Cristian Pereira ran well to record a time of 10.72 seconds. Colson and Pereira both doubled back in the 200 meters. Colson ran 21.47 seconds, and Pereira recorded a new PR of 21.72 seconds.
  • Senior Winslow Atkeson tested himself over the 3k steeplechase and placed fourth overall with a strong time of 8:51, just outside a PR.
  • Senior Leo Brewer returned to the track in the 5,000 meters and braved the early pace, returning home with a solid time of 14:13.
  • Junior Owen Karas raced in the fastest heat of the 1500 meters. Competing against the best runners in the nation, he performed well to run a 56 second last lap and move himself to fifth with a time of 3:40.
 
Up Next: 
  • The Bulldogs are back in action at home Saturday for the Mark Young Invitational. A busy week awaits, with the famous Penn Relays meet taking place between Apr. 24-26. The Ken O'Brien Pre-Conference Meet hosted by Amherst takes place on Apr. 26. These meets will give the Bulldogs a great final opportunity to test themselves before Heps.
