NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale sailing teams had another impressive weekend to close out their in-season spring sailing. The women's team won its second conference championship regatta of the season.
At Yale, the women's team won the NEISA Spring Women's Fleet Race Championship. On Saturday, the wind came out of the South and shifted further west as the racing went on. The breeze was on the lighter end, consistently between 5-10 knots with puffs up to 18 knots. On Sunday, it was too windy to sail. Each division completed three races, and skipper Dorothy Mendelblatt, with crews Sarah Moeder and Ximena Escobar, won all three races for B division. Skipper Emma Cowles and crew Jessi Avila-Shah won A division, placing 5, 4, and first in the three races. Winning this regatta made the women's team undefeated for the entire spring season.
At Brown, the coed team sailed in the NEISA Open Fleet Race Championship and placed fifth. On Saturday, the wind was shifty out of the South, ranging from 8-15 knots with puffs in the low-twenties. On Sunday, the wind shifted to come out of the North-west and picked up even more. Skipper Jack Egan and crew Elle Sykes placed sixth in A division, and skipper Mathias Reimer and crew Annabel Woodworth placed fifth in B division.
Later this week, the Team Race National Championships will begin. Both the coed and women's teams will be competing at Brown University. The coed racing will run from April 24-26, and the women's team will race beginning on April 27.
