Bulldogs Test Themselves on Final Day of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA — The final day of the Penn Relays Saturday allowed the Yale men's track and field team to contest the 4x800m relay and the 4xMile relay.

The first event of the day for the Bulldogs was the 4xMile. Yale's team consisted of senior Winslow Atkeson, sophomore Brian Gamble, senior Leo Brewer and junior Owen Karas. Atkeson led the Bulldogs on the first leg before handing over to Karas, who moved the Bulldogs into the lead. Brewer kept it together well before Gamble came home in 4:07, giving the Bulldogs a fifth-place finish in a time of 16:34.34.
Up next was the 4x800m relay with a Yale team of sophomore Amaré Fields, first-year Max Bishop, junior Braden King and first-year Matthew Schuztbank. The Bulldogs got out well, sitting mid-pack. Solid runs from all four Elis gave them a finishing position of ninth overall with a time of 7:33.48.

Day two of the Ken O'Brien Pre-Conference Meet takes place Sunday at UMass. This is the final day of regular-season competition before all attention turns to the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track and Field Championships that will be held at Yale May 10-11.
