Bulldogs Wrap Up Competition on Day One of Heps

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale men's track and field team wrapped up the first day of the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Championships Saturday and currently sits seventh. The first day was marked by numerous PRs and positions in finals earned.

The day began with a strong performance from junior Nolan Recker in the hammer throw. His third-round PR of 59.95 meters was enough for sixth, securing a point for the Bulldogs. Classmate Jake Sun threw 55.66 meters to place ninth.
In heat one of the 1500 meters, junior Owen Karas had a strong race to qualify for Sunday's final. He was joined by sophomore Brian Gamble. Going in heat two, first-year Matthew Schutzbank had a great tactical race to run 4:02 and qualify for the final.
Senior Simon Jupp raced in heat two of the 400 meters. He ran 50.52 to place sixth in his heat.
Senior Kit Colson ran a rapid 10.45 seconds in the 100 meters to qualify for the final. Classmate Cristian Pereira ran a strong time of 10.49, just missing out on qualifying for the final.
In the 800 meters, first-year Max Bishop put himself into the final with his time of 1:51.17 seconds. Junior Braden King placed third in his heat and sophomore Amaré Fields was fourth.
Colson returned in the 200 meters and qualified for the final with his time of 21.67.
The final event of the day was the 10,000 meters. Sophomore Daegan Cutter placed eighth overall in 30:25.55, with junior Kenan Pala in 10th in 31:03.03.
