NEW YORK – The Yale men's track and field team opened competition at the Dr. Sander Scorcher, hosted by Columbia at The Armory, on Friday. This meet gives the Bulldogs a chance to test themselves against some of the top competition in the region, including Ivy League opponents Brown, Columbia, Cornell and Harvard (plus two competitors from Princeton). The meet concludes Saturday.
Notable Performances:
Distance
- Senior Owen Karas finished 11th in the 3000m (8:18.55). A year ago at this time Karas ran a similar 3K time at the YDC meet (8:18.85); he would go on to place fourth in the event at indoor Heps in March with a time of 8:05.98.
Sprints
- Senior Andrew Farr, Yale's captain, finished fourth in the 60m. Farr's time of 6.860 placed him a fraction of a second behind Brown's Elias Archie (6.853, third place), who was a fifth-place finisher at indoor Heps last year. Farr had advanced to the finals by winning his heat in the prelims with a time of 6.88.
Jumps
- Sophomore Orion Browne finished 12th in the triple jump (14.41m). He was .27m away from his personal best.
Throws
- Senior Nolan Recker placed fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 19.97m. Princeton's Asher Robbins, who was seventh at indoor Heps last year, placed first with a mark of 21.11m.
