NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Ava Kainrath of the Yale softball team has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week following an impressive week of performances for the first-year.
Kainrath powered Yale's offense during a 2-2 week, starting and playing in all four games. She hit .571 (8-for-14) with a .929 slugging percentage, collecting her first career home run, two doubles, seven RBIs, and three runs scored while recording multiple hits in three of the four games.
In her first set of Ivy League outings, Kainrath went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored in a 14-4 win over Cornell. She followed that performance with a 2-for-4 outing that included her first career home run and a double while driving in three RBIs. In the final game of the weekend, she went 2-for-3.
Yale returns to action when it hosts Hofstra on Tuesday, March 15. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
