NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale sailing team opened its fall season with a strong start, competing in three regattas.

At Yale, the team placed fourth in the Harry H. Anderson Jr. Trophy. On Saturday, the wind initially came from the east, ranging from 6-10 knots, before slowly shifting south and increasing to 14 knots as the day progressed. The breeze was accompanied by wavy, choppy conditions on the water. No racing took place on Sunday due to inclement weather. Skipper Dorothy Mendelblatt, with crew Genevieve Schmidt, placed second in A division, while skipper Audrey Foley, with crew Annabel Woodworth, placed fourth in B division.

Yale's Match Racing Team headed to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy to compete in the Pine Trophy, a fleet racing regatta sailed in J/70s. On Saturday, the breeze blew from the southeast at 5-8 knots before building to 8-12 knots and shifting between the south and southeast. The breeze was light on Sunday and did not provide enough wind for racing to be completed. Skipper Morgan Pinckney raced with crews Ryan Tonkovich, Carly Kieding and Wyatt Kelly. The team placed second, finishing just two points behind Brown.

At Brown, three Bulldog boats raced in the Bears Invite, a one-division event held on Saturday. The breeze built throughout the day, starting from the south at 4-8 knots before increasing to 10-12 knots with heavier puffs by the end of the day. Ten races were completed throughout Saturday. Skipper Thomas O'Grady, with crew Matilda Twigg, placed fourth; skipper Eli Shainker, with crew Maren Bradley, placed 15th; and skipper Patrick Wahlig, with crew Beatrice Formenton, placed 18th.

Next weekend, the Yale sailing team has a packed schedule, competing in single-handed and double-handed fleet racing events.
