HARRISONBURG, Va. -
No. 9 JMU outscored Yale 5-1 in the final 21:04 to pull out a 13-9 victory over the Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at the Field Hockey/Lacrosse/Track & Field Complex. The Dukes got three goals each from Maria Bosica and Annie Wagner, negating a four-goal performance from Yale's Lauren Taylor. Kat Peetz added three goals for the Bulldogs, while Ellen Cameron made seven saves.
Yale (2-1) fell behind 3-0 in the game's first three minutes before Taylor broke the string with her first tally. The Bulldogs would eventually tie the game at four on a goal by Peetz six minutes before the half, but JMU (2-1) then scored three of the next four goals -- including a free-position shot by Natasha Fuchs only nine seconds before halftime, 11 seconds after Yale's Jess Champion was issued a yellow card.
A pair of goals by Taylor at the start of the second half tied the game at seven, and after JMU went back ahead on a Kelly Berger tally with 26:23 left Peetz tied the game at eight with 24:39 remaining.
After that JMU took control behind two goals from Wagner and one each from Bosica and Natasha Fuchs.
In addition to Taylor's four and Peetz' three, the Bulldogs also got goals from Marya Myers and Jenn Warden.
JMU's Kelly Wetzel finished with 11 saves.
