Box Score Rogers Blasted 13 Kills in Loss to Jayhawks on Friday Night
VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Yale's senior All-Ivy selections had another big match against a nationally ranked team on Friday night.
Mollie Rogers, a three-time first team All-Ivy pick, had a double-double, while 2013 second team All-Ivy honoree Maddie Rudnick had 13 digs in a loss to No. 24 Kansas.
Rogers finished with 13 kills and 12 digs against one of the Big 12's top teams. Rudnick now has 1,248 digs in her Yale career, ranks sixth all-time at Yale and needs 49 more to move into fifth in program history.
The scores of the match were 25-21, 25-15, 25-21.
Freshman Kelsey Crawford also continued an impressive start to her collegiate career with 25 assists, five digs, two service aces and two kills.
Yale (1-3) was competitive in the first set, and traded points early with the Jayhawks. Rogers tied the opener at 7 with a kill.
Later in the set, Sara McClinton gave Kansas a 18-12 lead. Yale fought back.
After two Kansas errors, Rogers fired an ace to cut the deficit to 18-15. Yale forced two more errors to pull within two at 22-20 and force a Kansas timeout.
In the second set, Kansas jumped ahead to a 7-2 lead. Yale scored six of the next seven points.
Kaitlyn Gibbons and Crawford blasted back-to-back kills, then Tori Shepherd added an ace. After a Kansas point, Rogers added two straight kills to cut the deficit to 8-7.
Yale kept the third set close. Maya Midzik tied the set at 10 with a kill, and the Bulldogs traded points.
Later in the set, Kelly Johnson's kill trimmed Kansas' lead to 18-16.
The Bulldogs have two matches on Saturday. First up, Yale faces No. 3 Penn State at 12 p.m. and takes on host Villanova at 7:30 p.m.
