Bulldogs Strand Eight Runners On Base

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Yale had opportunities against Syracuse, but the Bulldogs couldn't come up with enough big hits and dropped a 5-1 decision.

Yale managed five hits and three three walks but left eight runners on base.

Laina Do, Sarah Onorato, Camille Weisenbach, Alexa Caruso and Sydney Glover had the hits for the Bulldogs (0-3).

Syracuse (9-11) scored first in the bottom of the second, but Yale answered with a run in the third. Carolyn McGuire walked, advanced to second on Sydney Ginsberg's sacrifice bunt, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Glover's single.

Syracuse, though, answered with two runs in the bottom of the third, and two more in the fourth.

The Bulldogs had two runners reach base in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings but couldn't capitalize.

Freshman Francesca Casalino struck out three in 2.1 innings of relief in the circle for Yale.

The Bulldogs are off Thursday and play Florida A&M at 4:15 p.m. and Northern Illinois at 6:30 p.m. on Friday in Clearwater.
