SAN DIEGO, CA. - With one more day to go, the Yale coed sailing team extended its lead at the Laser Performance Team Race National Championship. The Bulldogs currently have an impressive 16-1 record, and they did not lose a single race today. Their closest competitors are Boston College and St. Mary's College of Maryland, each with a 14-4 record.
Skippers junior Ian Barrows, sophomore Malcolm Lamphere, and freshman Nic Baird competed with crews junior Meredith Megarry, junior Chandler Gregoire, and senior Charlotte Belling, respectively.
The breeze was fairly light, though it picked up in the middle of the day. We likely will not see anything new tomorrow.
Baird comments, "Today we allowed ourselves to have a little bit more space from the other teams, and we trusted our speed to do more of the work. We're more comfortable using the speed advantage we know we have. Now we're just working on starting better and making everything easier for ourselves. We're all looking forward to some battles tomorrow in the top 8 and final 4."
The ICSA Team Race National Champion will be decided tomorrow. Follow live results at http://scores.collegesailing.org/s16/laserperformance-team-race-nationals.
