SAN DIEGO, CA. - The Yale coed sailing team sits in first place after a long day of racing at the Gill Coed National Championship. 10 races were completed in each division. The westerly breeze was consistent at about 8-12 knots, making for some of the best sailing conditions the team has seen thus far.
Juniors Ian Barrows and Meredith Megarry led the Bulldogs with a strong start in A division. They have only 61 points, beating out Boston College for the top spot by three points. Barrows credits his success to starting well, allowing him to use his boatspeed to his advantage further up the course.
Freshman Nic Baird and crews senior Charlotte Belling and junior Isabelle Rossi de Leon sailed their way to a close third in B division.
Tomorrow is the second and final day of the 2016 ICSA Coed National Championship. The Bulldogs are hoping to defend their 2015 title. Eight more races will be completed, weather permitting.
Racing begins at 10:30 in the morning. Follow the action via live video at http://livestream.com/Degan/ICSACOED. Results can also be found at http://scores.collegesailing.org.
