NEWPORT, RI - The Yale Sailing Team has officially won the Laserperformance Team Race National Championship with a 21 - 4 record.
Day 3 of the Team Race National Championship followed a grueling, nearly 8-hour day of racing for the sailors wherein the first round was completed and the entire second round was sailed. As such, today consisted of only 6 races between the top 4 teams: Yale, Georgetown, Stanford, and Dartmouth.
Based on the standings from day 2, it was mathematically impossible for the Bulldogs to not win the championship, and today the weary sailors were able to maintain a more relaxed approach to sailing in preparation for tomorrow’s Gil Coed Eastern Semifinals.
The Bulldogs won against Stanford in a 1-2-6 combination and lost against Georgetown and Dartmouth. The sailors placed first in the regatta with a 21-4 record and an 84% win record. Assistant coach Martim Anderson attributed the team’s monumental success to the tried and true slogan “Teamwork makes the dream work.”
Tomorrow begins the first day of the Gil Coed Eastern Semifinals. The regatta operates in the same format as the Sperry Women’s Eastern Semifinals - the top nine teams from each of the two geographic-seeded competitions after two days of racing proceed to the Gil Coed National Championship.
