Yale Invitational
After starting the season with six matches away from home, including true road contests against Indiana and No. 20 USC, the Bulldogs will host their first matches of the season this weekend. It's all part of the Yale Invitational, which includes Army, Sacred Heart and Stony Brook. Â
Last Time Out
Yale defeated Howard last Saturday to earn its first victory of the season and wrapped up their West Coast trip with a win. Izzy Simqu blasted 10 kills and three blocks and Kathryn Attar added nine kills and four aces to lead Yale to a 3-0 win over Howard on Saturday at the Galen Center in Los Angeles. The victory came a day after Yale took No. 20 USC to five sets in a narrow loss.Â
Home DominanceÂ
Since the start of the 2013 season, the Bulldogs' home record is 54-9 overall and 39-4 against Ivy League teams. Yale was 10-0 in 2018 at home.
Challenging Schedule
The Bulldogs opened the season with four of its first five matches against "Power 5" conference teams. The schedule included neutral site matches against Oklahoma and Oregon State, and road matches at Indiana and No. 20 USC. While Yale lost all four matches, they took at least one set off of each school -- including five-set matches against USC and Oklahoma. Â
Nemeth Earns Honors
Rebekah Nemeth was named to the Trojan Invitational All-Tournament team last weekend.  Nemeth averaged 3.40 kills per set and also earned a spot on the Ivy League Honor Roll. A week earlier, Nemeth also was awarded all-tournament honors at the Hoosier Invitational hosted by Indiana University and included two other "Power 5" schools -- Oklahoma and Oregon State.
Bray Leads in Blocks
Sophomore Samantha Bray leads the Bulldogs in blocks through six matches. The Austin, Texas, native this season has 12 total blocks, including four in one match at No. 20 USC last weekend in a close five-set loss. As a first-year, she led the team in blocks with 69 and earned All-Ivy Second Team honors.Â
Scouting the Opponents
Stony Brook (3-8) - The Seawolves have won two in a row following a victory over St. Francis-New York on Tuesday night. Stony Brook was picked to repeat as America East champion in the conference's preseason poll. Last season, the Seawolves ran the table in conference play, going 12-0 to earn the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament and subsequently the America East title.Â
Army (6-3) - The Black Knights swept a tournament they hosted last weekend and earned victories over Bighamton, Kent State and Bryant. Senior Sydney Morris was named the tournament's most valuable player after recording 33 kills across the team's three matches. Senior Courtney Horace leads the team with 3.61 kills per set.
Sacred Heart (4-5) - The Pioneers went 2-1 at an invitational they hosted last weekend, with wins over NJIT and Northeastern and a loss to Fairfield. Freshman Jasmine Rogers was named the NEC Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league Monday afternoon. Rogers totaled 22 kills, 24 digs and four blocks. She averaged 3.43 digs and 3.14 kills per set.
