Season Outlook for Yale

The No. 3 Yale Men's Lacrosse Team opens the 2020 season with a legitimate road test.  The Bulldogs, who have lost the last two meetings, take on a Villanova team that already has a game against a nationally ranked team under its belt. Yale and the Wildcats tangle on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Philadelphia. The game at Villanova Stadium airs on Villanova's pay-per-view stream.

SERIES
Villanova holds a 2-1 series lead against Yale. The Elis won 16-11 at Philadelphia in 2017, before Villanova grabbed a pair of overtime wins with a 10-9 decision at the 2018 Patriot Cup and a 11-10 game in 2019.

LAST YEAR
Last season's matchups saw six different Yale players tally goals, including two-goal performances by Jackson Morrill and Matt Gaudet in the 11-10 loss to the Wildcats at New Haven.

PRE-SEASON
Official practice for Yale, which was picked to win the league by the Ivy media and by IL, began on Feb. 1, and the Elis were on the road that afternoon for a Feb. 2 scrimmage at Syracuse. A home scrimmage on Feb. 8 against Fairfield was another chance for the coaches to fit the pieces to their puzzle.

WILDCATS
Villanova, getting votes this week in both the major national polls, opened up the season last Saturday against No. 1 Penn State, which broke open a 4-4 tie in the second quarter with six straight goals on the way to a 19-10 win over the Wildcats. Penn State tallied eight of the nine goals in the second on Villanova's home field. The Wildcats had three goal performances from Keegan Khan and Matt Campbell and12 saves from Will Vitton.
