NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Following a season-best performance last weekend, the Yale gymnastics team was back in John J. Lee Amphitheater Sunday as the Bulldogs faced Brockport. They wound up with a decisive win on Senior Day, scoring 194.175 to Brockport's 188.750.
Yale started off the morning with a fantastic performance on the vault. Yale's vault lineup earned the top six placements, adding up a massive 48.725. This is the highest team vault score the lineup has posted all season, placing third-highest in program history. Senior lead-off
Anna Jennings started the competition off with a new season-high score of 9.675, while junior
Charlotte Cooperman notched a 9.700. Senior
Rebecca Chong competed a yurchenko half (9.700). Anchors first year
Aimee Titche and junior
Alyssa Firth earned the highest scores of the meet with a matching pair of 9.8s. Senior
Jade Buford followed, earning second place with a 9.725, front-entry vault. Titche's score was a new season- and career-high. Additionally, Firth and Titche now tie for fourth-highest vault score in program history. The exhibition of the day was junior
Rowan Palmer.
The Bulldogs caught fire on their second rotation, posting a season-best 48.700 on the uneven bars -- the 10th highest score in program history. Titche started off this incredible event with a hit routine career-high (9.475). First-year
Caitlin Henry came up in the second spot, delivering a 9.075. Sophomore
Lindsay Chia executed a gorgeous bar routine, sticking her dismount earning a 9.825 as well, which led her to a second-place finish. This is also a new career-high for Chia. First-year
Raegan Walker trailed behind with a 9.725. The Bulldogs' score was bolstered by a near season-best 9.825 from junior
Jacey Baldovino and a huge 9.850 from Buford. She used a high-flying, twisting-turning, stuck dismount to win the event and tie a career-high.
For the third event, the Bulldogs posted a total score of 48.250 on the balance beam. Lead-off Cooperman started off with a strong 9.675, Chia followed with an enormous beam set of 9.825 to take first place. Chia's score is yet another season- and career-high. Firth added a 9.075 after Chia's routine. The duo of Buford and Baldovino earned a 9.350 and 9.750. Senior
Emma Firmstone's 9.650 anchor-performance on the balance beam propelled Yale to a 48.250. Palmer and senior
Carly Israel were the exhibitions of the day.
Yale sealed the meet following a season-best 48.500 performance on the floor exercise. Firmstone led the Bulldogs with a huge 9.700 in her second appearance of the day. Baldovino posted a 8.900 following Firmstone, while Cooperman stuck her set with a 9.625. The senior duo of Chong and Buford delivered a 9.675 and 9.725. Anchor Firth finished her competition with a massive 9.775. Seniors Jennings and
Sofia Menemenlis exhibitioned the event.
Yale had one competitor in the all-around. Buford scored a 38.650 securing her first-place finish.
Following the meet the Bulldogs honored their seniors: Buford, Chong, Firmstone, Israel, Jennings and Menemenlis.
The Bulldogs head to Pittsburgh next Saturday Feb. 15 for one of the more difficult competitions of the season. It will be a tri-competition including Pittsburgh and Towson. Competition begins at 2 pm.
